Lady

This is a very special song for me, and definitely belongs in the soundtrack.

"Lady" was written by the talented Lionel Ritchie and performed by Mr. Kenny Rogers.

Last Letter

This song has to go on the soundtrack. Absolutely.

In fact, I'm shocked I didn't put it on earlier. What a great song.

What Doesn't Kill You

OK, another song for the Soundtrack. And boy, this one really hits home.

Attention all those who sought to break me, tear me down, talk about me behind my back, and pretend like I am evil, divisive and a liar:

you lose.

You ended up with legalism, judgment, fear, bitterness, resentment and hate.
Further, you perpetuate it to the next generation all in the name of piety.
You can't even look me in the eye or say my name without animosity.
I'd sure like to know how that behavior lines up with Scripture.

However, the LORD of All has gifted me with unending forgiveness, love, and gentle kindness towards all of you. I couldn't have done it on my own, without question. Because of His unfailing mercy, grace and faithfulness to what He promised, a new day is dawning...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, absolutely.
All for His Glory.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,
stand a little taller,
doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone.
What doesn't kill you makes a fighter,
footsteps even lighter,
doesn't mean I'm over cause your gone.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger
Just me, myself and I!
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,
stand a little taller,
doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone.
Thanks to you I got a new thing started,
Thanks to you I'm not the broken-hearted,
Thanks to you I'm finally thinking 'bout me.

You know in the end the day I left was just my beginning...
in the end...
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I Love You Anyway.

Holly Starr "I Love You Anyway" from Aaron Randerson on Vimeo.

I don't have much to say
I hope it doesn't end this way
We all have those times in our lives
When we really wanna believe the lies
It really hurt me when
I wasn't who you wanted
but I'm sorry I can't give you everything
just because your life's not like mine
doesn't mean I have more than you
more than you...

But I love you anyway

I will remember all the times we shared together
and I will remember all the tears that fell from my eyes
70 minutes on the phone is a long time
but G-d has a reason for you to be in my life...

There will be times I remember the things you did to me
but I will choose love and forgive you for everything

Because I love you anyway.

(I have been told that this song was written in response to a betrayal and heartbreak of a dear and valued friendship. Man, I can relate to that. This song really touched me...I hope it touches you, too.)

A Song From My Past

Heard this the other day when I had the pleasure of strolling through one of the many fabulous antique stores in our area. What is it about antique and thrift stores that they feel compelled to torture customers with the oldies radio station? Sometimes, though, I hear a song that I had long forgotten...like this one.

My parents owned this record album and I would 'borrow' it and play it on my little red record player, while studying the lyrics that were typically written out on the protective sleeve inside the album cover. I still can hear the record hiss and remember cleaning the accumulated dust off the needle. Operator was definitely a favorite, and now hearing the lyrics as an adult, I can understand why...

Oh, and in '73, when this was released, I was 8 years old.

Operator, well could you help me place this call?
See, the number on the matchbook is old and faded.
She's living in L.A. with my best old ex-friend Ray,
A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated.

Isn't that the way they say it goes? Well, let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it,
So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow, I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real, but that's not the way it feels.

Operator, well could you help me place this call?
Well, I can't read the number that you just gave me.
There's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time
I think about a love that I thought would save me.

No - that's not the way it feels.

Operator, well let's forget about this call
There's no one there I really wanted to talk to.
Thank you for your time, ah, you've been so much more than kind.
And you can keep the dime.

No - that's not the way it feels.

I also love this one, which is the title track for the album that featured Operator.

A Song that Describes...

...me.

Yep. This is the one.

There's another world inside of me
That you may never see
There're secrets in this life
That I can't hide
Somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Maybe it's too far away...
Or maybe I'm just blind...

So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared
And love me when I'm gone
Everything I am
And everything in me
Wants to be the one
You wanted me to be
I'll never let you down
Even if I could
I'd give up everything
If only for your good
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone

When your education X-Ray
Cannot see under my skin
I won't tell you a damn thing
That I could not tell my friends
Roaming through this darkness
I'm alive but I'm alone
Part of me is fighting this
But part of me is gone

Love me when I'm gone...

The Unexpected Song

A song that no one expects you to love.

I have loved this song from the second I heard it - it just speaks to me.

Joel, second chapter

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming. It is close at hand-- a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as never was of old nor ever will be in ages to come. Before them fire devours, behind them a flame blazes. Before them the land is like the garden of Eden, behind them, a desert waste-- nothing escapes them. They have the appearance of horses; they gallop along like cavalry. With a noise like that of chariots they leap over the mountaintops, like a crackling fire consuming stubble, like a mighty army drawn up for battle.

At the sight of them, nations are in anguish; every face turns pale. They charge like warriors; they scale walls like soldiers. They all march in line, not swerving from their course. They do not jostle each other; each marches straight ahead. They plunge through defenses without breaking ranks. They rush upon the city; they run along the wall. They climb into the houses; like thieves they enter through the windows. Before them the earth shakes, the sky trembles, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine. The LORD thunders at the head of his army; his forces are beyond number, and mighty are those who obey his command. The day of the LORD is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?

"Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your G-d, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing-- grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your G-d.

Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber. Let the priests, who minister before the LORD, weep between the temple porch and the altar. Let them say, "Spare your people, O LORD. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their G-d?'"

Then the LORD will be jealous for his land and take pity on his people. The LORD will reply to them: "I am sending you grain, new wine and oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an object of scorn to the nations. "I will drive the northern army far from you, pushing it into a parched and barren land, with its front columns going into the eastern sea and those in the rear into the western sea. And its stench will go up; its smell will rise." Surely he has done great things. Be not afraid, O land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the LORD has done great things. Be not afraid, O wild animals, for the open pastures are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.

Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your G-d, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before. The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and oil. "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten-- the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm-- my great army that I sent among you. You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the LORD your G-d, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed. Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the LORD your G-d, and that there is no other; never again will my people be shamed.

"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.

A Song that is a Guilty Pleasure

This is definitely a song that makes me smile. Absolutely makes me want to sing and dance a bit, too. This video is really fun to watch, and man, did Whitney have the killer voice or what?

Love the lyrics...a little on the disco-ish side, but very fun. Makes me feel young...
Yeah, a guilty pleasure.

I'm every woman
It's all in me
I can read your thoughts right now....

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done baby
I do it naturally...

A New-to-Me Band

I'm gonna change up this challenge a bit. This post was supposed to be 'a song from a band you hate', but c'mon...do I hate any band? Oh probably, but that's not very edifying, so...

A song from a New-to-Me band.

Let me introduce you to Bond, if you haven't heard them. A new take on classical - very hip. The first one, a song called Hymn, was introduced to me by a sweet friend named Sarah. I really love it!

Most Hated Song

Oh yes, I most certainly have a most hated song.

And yes, I'm gonna post it here.

Something is just wrong about that.  Play at your own risk, however, you are probably already in trouble just by the fact that you read the title.

Just why do I hate this song, you ask?

I don't hate it because it's a Christmas song, I hate it because it is the most insidiously brain-seeding song EVER. I absolutely hate it with a fiery, burning passion. I run from it, cover my ears and scream la-la-la-la-la-la so I can drown it out. I curse every store that plays it during the holiday season and pray that it doesn't come on while I have to shop. Truly, I couldn't hate it more.

Does anyone, other than those people in this video, really like this song?  Really?

I don't believe it.

~end of rant~

A Song From My Favorite Band

A song from your favorite band.

Man, I have a lot of favorite musical artists; music is such a part of my life...like air, really. I love bands like Three Doors Down and Nickelback as well as fabulous vocalists like Katharine McPhee, Spencer Day, Nora Jones and Michael Buble. So many times I choose great instrumentalists like Wynton Marsalis, Warren Vashe and Chris Botti for horns and David Nevue, Kevin Kern and Fiona Joy Hawkins for piano.

But, my favorite band has to be Third Day. The voice, the musical talent and skill...the message.

Sleepy Music

A song that makes you fall asleep, huh?

I enjoy practicing yoga. I derive a lot of benefit from meditation. But I have to admit that sometimes, especially if I haven't been sleeping well, I have...well...actually fallen asleep during full body relaxation. I know, you are supposed to keep your mind alert. Let's just say I have a long way to go yet...

I do love meditation music, but can I suggest that you don't listen to this type of music while driving? Just sayin'...

A Song that Makes Me Dance

Dance?  Me?

I am a dancer, no doubt. I can't sit still when certain songs begin - like this one...

Then, there's this one...

Now, that puts me in the mood to dance, for sure!

A Song That I Know

Alright, these challenge prompts are not written very well...

"A song that I know all the words to."

Yeah.

Anyway, this one is tough. I know the words to a LOT of songs, as it's kind of my thing. I used to ask my mom why, when singing along to a song, did she only sing the words she liked, not all of them. That question always rewarded me with a look that said I shouldn't ask such things. *grimace*

Sorry, Mom.

This song is packed with memories - good ones. Love the trumpet part, love hearing the voices of the past in my head as I sing along.  I love the lyrics and it's just a fun song to sing.

The dance that goes along with it is so much fun, too.

Song That Reminds Me of an Event

This was, and is, the theme song for probably the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. I've never agonized over a decision like I did over that one...

I'm all the way gone now, but still connected in some weird, undefinable way.
Go figure.

A Song That Reminds Me of a Place

This song will always take me right back to my time in Israel.

A few favorite shots from my time in my beloved Land...

A Song That Reminds Me of Someone

This song always reminds me of my southern boy, my love, my handsome husband.  He was born in Louisiana, his family hails from Mississippi, and he went to school in Memphis.  We have spent time there, he and I.  Yeah, he even kinda sounds like this guy...

This song, and all the songs from the Miami Vice soundtrack remind me of ghosts from another lifetime...

And this song will always remind me of one of the most beautiful souls I have ever known...
